Colwell & Newman promoted

Congratulations to Kristin B. Colwell, RID, NCIDQ, WELL AP, who has been named BarberMcMurry's new Studio Manager, and Drew Newman, AIA, LEED AP, our new Digital Practice Manager. 

Colwell has been with BarberMcMurry for nine years, is an Associate, senior interior designer and project manager. She earned her Bachelor of Interior Design from the University of Tennessee. 

She has been integrally involved in studio initiatives related to Building Information Modeling (BIM) as well as sustainable design. She is a tnAchieves mentor. 

Newman worked for BarberMcMurry from 2015-2017 and rejoined the firm in 2022. He is an Associate. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art and his Master of Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. 

He has been a core member of BMA initiatives related to BIM project delivery methods and design process. Newman serves on the State of Tennessee BIM Committee and the Board of Directors of AIA East Tennessee. He is a member of Young Professionals of Knoxville and the Society for College and University Planning, and volunteers as a head coach for Farragut Baseball Inc.


Matt Jordan promoted to Design Manager

Congratulations to Matt Jordan, AIA, LEED AP, WELL AP, on his promotion to Design Manager!

Jordan has worked at BarberMcMurry for fifteen years on many of the firm’s most recognized and complex projects, including the UT Student Union, Joint Institute for Advanced Materials, the Heart Hospital at UT Medical Center, and a half-dozen Tennessee Board of Regents projects, including buildings for Pellissippi State Community College, Roane State Community College, TCAT Harriman, TCAT Chattanooga and TCAT Knoxville, among others. 

He serves on the Board of Directors of PechaKucha Night Knoxville and is a member of various committees of the East Tennessee Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

“Matt’s incredible eye for design has benefited BarberMcMurry and our clients for fifteen years, and his commitment to mentorship and leadership of our studio — in terms of design process, culture and results — is critical to our ongoing success. We’re extremely excited about what Matt will bring to this new position in the office,” said BMA President & CEO, Chuck Griffin, AIA, NCARB.

Matt is a core leader of BarberMcMurry’s sustainable design initiatives and R&D efforts — leading the charge in the firm’s use of virtual reality, AI and other technologies and strategies that improve design outcomes. 

Matt is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Architecture + Design. He and his wife, Cara, have two sons, Xander and Nico.
