BarberMcMurry worked with Legacy Parks to design the French Broad Veterans Memorial Park, set high on the bluffs above the French Broad River, commanding a view that honors East Tennessee’s veterans — as it overlooks the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
A covered pavilion anchors the large plaza that leads to an overlook promontory and flag courtyard, allowing for reflection and connection. The site also includes a reflective garden for small gatherings, a Memorial Wall and walk, and nature trails.
The pavilion uses a material palette of textured fiber cement panels, painted steel, and wooden accents — all a reference to the durability and utility of materials used in the military.
The French Broad Veterans Memorial Park is a place where anyone can gather to honor the service and sacrifice of East Tennessee’s veterans.
