The John J. Duncan Federal Building, completed in 1988, has a distinctive post-modern design that is unique among downtown Knoxville buildings.
The firm's longstanding design principles — including accessibility of views, inclusion of green space, and the use of efficient building systems — helped the building later receive a LEED certification.
The building houses more than 500 federal employees from departments as varied as the FBI and IRS. The design included plazas on opposite corners of the site, giving employees a place to relax or eat with plentiful seating, water features and landscaped green space.
