Through a competitive process, BarberMcMurry was selected to provide a best-value design at Hardin Valley Middle School as design-build partner to Denark Construction.
The efficient design reflects the school's constrained site, immediately adjacent to other area schools. The design balances the project's budget and fast-tracked construction schedule with student safety and the effectiveness of the learning environment. The prominent use of glass ensures every classroom, and most shared spaces, have windows with views. Design features like acoustical cloud ceilings add a youthful vibe to spaces that don't typically see such detail. With LED lighting and automated fixtures, the design also thoughtfully considers long-term sustainability and maintenance costs.
The repeated use of the vibrant Hardin Valley blue as an accent color draws students into the space, reinforces school spirit and supports safety and wayfinding: in an emergency, first responders can more easily locate classrooms and navigate the facility.
Hardin Valley accommodates 1,200 students.
