At East Tennessee State University, BarberMcMurry designed a parking garage that also holds public safety offices, a welcome center, and a food service component.
The selected site on ETSU's campus was a very prominent location and entry to the campus, so we designed a building that was not only multi-functional, but served as an architectural gateway to campus. The building's material palette — including brick, glass and metal — is integrated with existing campus architecture of particular importance and enhances existing student thoroughfares by creating a pedestrian mall. The efficient structure houses 1,200 parking spaces but also serves as a place where first-time visitors can stop at the welcome center or students can stop for coffee on the way to class.
