Meet Our Newest Employee, Andrew Cahill

Andrew Cahill

BarberMcMurry Architects has hired Andrew Cahill as an intern.

Cahill graduated from The Catholic University of America, in Washington, D.C., last May, and has pursued study abroad experiences in Barcelona and Rome.

While in school, Cahill worked on conceptual projects including museums, vocational retreats, intergenerational facilities and the Luce di Passagio, a residential development in Rome. His display of a proposed “Presidential Smithsonian” was exhibited in the Crough Center for Architectural Studies. In college, he was a member of a design team that placed second in the Walton Critic Studio and third in the Competitive Building Design Studio.

His professional projects include several residential buildings and row-homes.

Cahill was born in Massachusetts, raised in New Jersey, and plans to pursue his master’s degree at the University of Tennessee.

Ryan Dobbs is BarberMcMurry's newest Partner

BarberMcMurry Architects has named Ryan Dobbs, AIA, its newest Partner.

Dobbs, a Lenoir City native, served in the U.S. Army and graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology before returning to the Knoxville area.

Dobbs’ project experience at BarberMcMurry includes several award-winning designs, including Hicks Orthodontics in Lenoir City, Contemporary Women’s Health, and the City of Knoxville Public Works Complex, as well as recent projects at AMS Corporation and Hardin Valley Middle School.

“My design aesthetic derives from the interplay of natural materials, daylight and the modern form. But design means little without functionality. A great design is as functional and efficient as it is beautiful,” Dobbs said.

Dobbs served in the 82nd Airborne through two tours in Iraq between 2001 and 2005. He graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology in 2012 and came to work at BarberMcMurry the same year. He has quickly risen to the level of Senior Associate and now, Partner.

“Ryan’s depth of leadership and big-picture planning capabilities set him apart,” said Chuck Griffin, President & CEO of BarberMcMurry. “At the same time, he has an amazing talent for design — as many of our clients can attest — and an attention to those design details that lead to beautiful and functional buildings.”

Dobbs volunteers on the Board of Directors for The Muse Knoxville and is a member of the Rotary Club of Knoxville and the FLETCH Society of East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. He and his wife, Mary Ellen, live in Lenoir City and have two daughters.
