For University Health System, BarberMcMurry designed the Blount County Cancer Center, a welcoming facility in Alcoa that reflects the organization’s brand — most familiar at the University of Tennessee Medical Center Cancer Institute.
In the lobby and waiting area, a wall mural of the Great Smoky Mountains celebrates the Blount County community’s long heritage and connection with the mountains. Metal panel and patterned brick are modern elements of the design on the exterior, while pops of color and walnut wood accents lend warmth and biophilic character to the interior.
The state-of-the-art facility provides a full spectrum of oncology and support services. The building includes exam rooms, infusion bays, and counseling areas — all intended to support positive outcomes when patients most need it. The building also includes a timeshare suite for complementary medical provider services, accessed through a separate entrance to reduce infection risk.
On this project, BMA worked with developer Meadows & Ohly.
