Niswonger Performing Arts Center

The Niswonger Performing Arts Center was designed to serve dual purposes as a 1,200-seat community performing arts center and a high-school auditorium.

Rather than copying detailing of a more recent high school renovation, the design of the performing arts center derived its inspiration from the original school’s architectural design of the 1950s and early 1960s modernist principles. These timeless design details complemented the renovation while providing the performing arts center its own unique identity.

We paid careful attention to the intricate detailing and design coordination of the lobby curtain wall, exterior paving patterns, interior floor patterns, wood paneling, lobby design, and auditorium finishes, but by comparison, the exterior massing remained simple and straightforward to allow the focus to remain on the entry and performance spaces.
