First Baptist Church Dandridge

Building Area: 27,300 s.f. New; 8,000 s.f. Renovation

Date of Completion: 2012

Type: Master Plan, Addition, & Renovation

Location: Dandridge, TN

Budget: $4,900,000

Challenge: Convert an existing sanctuary into a fellowship
hall and design a new 900 seat worship addition respectful of the existing
architecture.

Solution: Since 1980, BMa has been commissioned by this
growing Baptist congregation in Dandridge, Tennessee, to master plan and
design various structures on their site. The congregation is one of East
Tennessee’s oldest, and its church building has traditionally served as
a community gathering place for Tennessee’s second oldest city. The existing
church was designed in a traditional Greek revival style and seats approximately
400 worshippers. Multiple design schemes were developed to help the church
Building Committee and congregation decide upon the placement of the steeple,
and the treatment of other design details. Design of the sanctuary embraced
the historic stained-glass windows from the church’s former location in
downtown Dandridge.
