University of Tennessee - Pratt Pavilion

Building Area: 72,000 s.f.

Date of Completion: 2007

Type: New Construction

Location: Knoxville, TN

Budget: $12,800,000

Challenge: Utilizing an existing surface parking lot site, design a basketball practice facility for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

Solution: Connected to the University’s 25,000-seat basketball arena, this facility includes two full-sized courts. Divided by a retractable glass wall etched with icons of both the men’s and women’s teams, the dual-court layout allows simultaneous practice by both teams, eliminating scheduling concerns for practice time. Ringed by elevated observation points, the dual-court setup also makes the new facility highly desirable for recruiting.

A two-story lobby is flanked with exhibits chronicling the rich basketball tradition at the University. The facility includes a recruiting room, weight room, training room and film room, with controlled, 24/7 access for the teams and coaches.
