Challenge: Plan and design a new hospital to serve the rapidly growing population of North Knox County.
Solution: This comprehensive development designed in collaboration with HDR architects, is sited on 50 acres off of Interstate 75 and comprises two medical office buildings, a health and fitness center, and a cancer, imaging and women's center.
The six-floor, 206,000 SF, full-service facility includes five operating rooms and 10 emergency rooms. It also includes 72 private patient rooms, 12 of which are in the ICU. Future expansion of an additional 36 patient rooms is incorporated into the design. A main focus in patient rooms is safety and comfort. Reflective light fixtures improve patient comfort, while high-quality soundproofing is used for interior walls and structural systems are designed to reduce vibration noise.
Sustainable design principles reduce the building's energy consumption, including low energy loss glass, high-reflectivity roof membrane material and energy-efficient lighting specifications.
